guess what I made?

These

Sliced

Reamed with my new toy from the Moravian Cookshop. A whole pound of these babies.

and baked to perfection

for the hubster for tmrw after the Iron Pigs game. Our neighbor gave us 2 tickets for a late morning game so he's taking the boy who LOVES baseball, while I wait for the window repairman to come.

The recipe for the body of the pie is from Emeril's (the same one I always use) but this time I topped it with meringue from the Joy of Cooking cookbook.

THe mans' birthday is Saturday, so I'm trying to surprise him a little each day this week. Yesterday I brought home the cutest t-shirt from the zoo... 4 beetles crossing a pedestrian crosswalk.. and it says in the correct font The Beetles. Today was a few dark chocolate truffles from the Moravian cookshop. Champagne, cappucino, coffee, raspberry, amaretto, and some pyramid looking one. Sunday was a Phillies towel that you take to the game. Monday was a lost day, I'm afraid. but I have lots more planned for him.

Just a bird's eye shot of what I made during the 2011 Tour de Fleece. There's lots of yarn there... and a few rolags to spin yet. It will be finished before school starts.

oops

I realized I didn't post the yarn made from the shelties.

Here's a look at it:

I've been cleaning and doing laundry today... these kids have way too many toys, I think it's time to clean OUT!
I have a touch of something... low grade fever, tired achy... i want to sleep!

tour de fleece 09

this is what I finished spinning during the tour de france this year

TOP: grape ice merino 2 ply 450 yards light worsted 361 g
2nd ROW:rio merino finished 2 ply 1272 yds DK 504g
3rd ROW: lincoln longwool... waiting to be measured alpaca... not nearly finished
BOTTOM: hogget finn....480g..... still spinning singles will triple ply

not as much as last year but still not terribly shabby... if you'd like to see what the other ravelers made check out the Tour de Fleece group on flickr.

I was really happy that Lance made it to the podium. Contador did an amazing race he really did deserve the yellow jersey. It will be interesting to see who is on the Radio Shack team with Lance Armstrong next year. Rumor has it that Levi Leipheimer has already been recruited. Time will tell.

tour mosaic

or trying this

1. BFL finished by 7/23, 2. Finn and BFL, 3. BFL singles, 4. Ashland Bay, 5. Lincoln Longwool, 6. alpaca

end of the tour

and I finished another yards of brown BFL (plied, washed and drying) and some constrasting Finn for the trim, about 96 yard plied washed and drying (hope it's enough). I haven't uploaded any pics from the new camera but here's one from the old while the yarn is still on the skein winder.

Not too clear. The new camera takes great shots, I just need to make room for them on this computer!

I have a bobbin full of one ply and a bit more in a center pull ball as well as a bit more of the cappucino finn. We're off for a bit so I won't be spinning (unless I take along the drop spindle)

This was a fun 3 weeks of spinning. I'm sure DH will be happy to have his wife less obsessed with bike races and spinning wool. Although I've found the Missouri tour starts Sept 8 (after the olympics) but also after we've returned to school. We'll see just what can get done!

drama for an 8YO

DD has a very good friend (call her G) at school who was going to be her twin for twin day next week. Until another friend (call her T) gave said friend an outfit for her birthday that was the same as T's... and said at the party (in front of DD) now we can be twins for twin day. Of course DD was heartbroken... so suggested they go as triplets to which the other girls agreed... except that the outfit is no where to be found in our area... Yikes the drama of being 8! I don't remember it being so hard when I was that age.

on a happier note, I got home from work today and found this in my mailbox

it's from my dishcloth exchange pal on ravelry, aka zellspin.... I love everything. The grapes in the background belong to a small project bag that she made. The colorway for the yarn is fairy tales. Thank you so very much!

I finished #10 of lizard ridge square fame> This is color 116D. I'm thinking I better start to knit with the brighter Noro in my stash or I'm going to want this afghan to stay dark. I really love knitting this (I have mentioned that already, no?)

DH's socks have picked up a bit... especially when I realized that father's day is less than 2 weeks away. I'm adding some wooly nylon to the heels and toes hoping that they wear a little better.

And my MIL claimed this cloth:

Pattern: Lace Loops (chante's tricks) from Shirley's Knitting Knook Yahoo group
Yarn: Sugar and Cream
Color: Newport
Needle: US6

I'm only too happy for her to have it!

Over the weekend I finally untangled this pile of yarn, that I had spun ages ago and dyed Easter Monday with coffee. It was a tangled mess from the dyeing process and was sitting in a basket by my chair for a long time... so now it has its own little mini skeins..I think I'll spit splice them all together and then it will be one single ply skein of about 240 yards to do something fun with. I'm thinking it's Romney, but wouldn't bet any money on it.

wish me luck finding that outfit made by Fang clothing. I know they carry that brand at Boscov's so maybe another outing will prove successful.

Halloween party time

Last night was trick-or-treat in our neighborhood. It was pouring rain but I still managed to go through about 5 pounds of candy. After we had a little get together with one od DDs friends from school and her family. It was a great way to meet and talk with other adults about our age with kids our kids'ages ( a rarity) I tried to put out a bit of a spread with food for both adults and kids.
Hummus and pita triangles
Avocado dip
Salsa
Chili dip
4 varieties of cheese
olives (for eyeballs)
crackers
taco chips
cut out cookies
witch finger pretzels (dipped in white chocolate with almond slice fingernails)
Frankenstein cupcakes
cider
Sparkling cider (with a ice cube hand floating in it)
Wine

I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did... fun conversation and the kids had fun too after they dried off!

I've been busy plying. This is 540 yards 2 ply 17 wpi of Targhee cross.... I still have more to ply and tons more to spin. Just need to find some time. I've been busy working on the shawl, the mittens and the scarf.... when I get some free minutes.

Happy Crafting
