happy easter

The bunny was a very busy girl today. Went shopping for baskets... not candy, but some last minute goodies, like bike helmets a movie, etc. Stopped at the thrift shop to donate a large bag and went in and came out with a large bag... hahaha cashmere sweaters, wool sweaters to felt for a Christmas gift project, a pizza stone, pants for DS2, a movie for DS1 and a silk tie.

I wanted to try my hand at literally tie dyeing eggs... It wasn't too successful... I'm not giving up though!

Speaking of dyeing... this week I dyed some handspun in colors that remind me of tulips...The green is the leaves and stems and well the rest is the flower itself.

My SIL was admitted to the hospital today with double pneumonia. We usually have Easter at their house, but I knew she wasn't feeling well so had thought we'd stay home and I'd do the dinner thing here for the family. My other SIL is sick as well, so I wanted to make sure that mom had someone to celebrate with. We're all heading down very early in the AM and bringing her to church with us then going out for lunch. Fortunately, I was able to get reservations for us at a favorite Italian restaurant between church and her 'village' and not far from the hospital that my SIL is in. So I convinced my brother and nephew to join us, since they still need to eat! DS1 will be just as happy not to see his dog cousin!

The hoodie is almost finished.. making the hood now... I think I realized a kind of major error, but it looks ok... so I'll let it slide. IF I ever make this pattern again, I'll be using the yarn it calls for... just didn't have it in boy colors and I want to knit from stash this year only (if at all possible)

At any rate, enjoy your holiday... It's my favorite one of all (actually my favorite church service was Friday... something about that tenebrae service really hits me.)

drama for an 8YO

DD has a very good friend (call her G) at school who was going to be her twin for twin day next week. Until another friend (call her T) gave said friend an outfit for her birthday that was the same as T's... and said at the party (in front of DD) now we can be twins for twin day. Of course DD was heartbroken... so suggested they go as triplets to which the other girls agreed... except that the outfit is no where to be found in our area... Yikes the drama of being 8! I don't remember it being so hard when I was that age.

on a happier note, I got home from work today and found this in my mailbox

it's from my dishcloth exchange pal on ravelry, aka zellspin.... I love everything. The grapes in the background belong to a small project bag that she made. The colorway for the yarn is fairy tales. Thank you so very much!

I finished #10 of lizard ridge square fame> This is color 116D. I'm thinking I better start to knit with the brighter Noro in my stash or I'm going to want this afghan to stay dark. I really love knitting this (I have mentioned that already, no?)

DH's socks have picked up a bit... especially when I realized that father's day is less than 2 weeks away. I'm adding some wooly nylon to the heels and toes hoping that they wear a little better.

And my MIL claimed this cloth:

Pattern: Lace Loops (chante's tricks) from Shirley's Knitting Knook Yahoo group
Yarn: Sugar and Cream
Color: Newport
Needle: US6

I'm only too happy for her to have it!

Over the weekend I finally untangled this pile of yarn, that I had spun ages ago and dyed Easter Monday with coffee. It was a tangled mess from the dyeing process and was sitting in a basket by my chair for a long time... so now it has its own little mini skeins..I think I'll spit splice them all together and then it will be one single ply skein of about 240 yards to do something fun with. I'm thinking it's Romney, but wouldn't bet any money on it.

wish me luck finding that outfit made by Fang clothing. I know they carry that brand at Boscov's so maybe another outing will prove successful.

sick kid

poor ds2. he had a busy day... gymnastics then home for lunch and then to the park with friends and their house for dinner. DH and I went to pick him up and at about 8 he crawled up into my lap and fell asleep... short time after, I was showered with his dinner. fun! why is it that they always lose it on mom... and while I'm holding them on my shoulder??? we came home and he went right to bed but woke up about 30 minutes ago to get sick some more... hope he's better tmrw.

Thought I'd post my latest dyeing... this was with leftover egg dye. I'm calling it spring green. I think it looks a bit like all the greens on the flowers and leaves right now. This is about 92 yards of single ply romney that is about 18 wpi.

Speaking of flowers. My daffies are really starting to come out and the tulip buds are getting 'ripe' I really love spring.

Back for Christmas 2006, I made pop the coronet from Knitty. Mom gave it to me along with the my so called scarf I made him this year and his little turtle knits felted slippers. I shrunk the slippers more so now they fit me, the scarf... well that's fine the way it is (and I don't believe that he ever wore it), but the hat was too big for me (in height) so I took out the lining and frogged about 4 inches from the top..reworked it with a spiral decrease over 16 rows and now it fits me! :-) I think I'll fix the lining and sew it back in because it makes for quite a toasty warm hat. I can carry a bit of him with me all hat wearing season. I still can't believe he's gone.

DH went to pick up the furniture for the boys room. We're keeping it in the garage until their floors get refinished. So I told DS1 since his bedroom furniture would be in the garage, he'd have to sleep there (in the garage) He didn't believe me for a minute. That kid is too smart for me! This End Up bunks but with 2 drawers below instead of two, a 5 drawer dresser, a 3 drawer dresser , a desk with study carrel and a tall bookshelf We got it from craigslist. DD has the daybed with three drawers under it and the 5 drawer dresser and desk in her room. We also found that on craigslist. If you're looking for something, I highly recommend checking it out. We've been so happy with our finds and feel great knowing that we're re-using and keeping stuff out of landfills. I <3 both craigslist and freecycle. Plus you save $ to boot... always a good thing!
