drama for an 8YO

DD has a very good friend (call her G) at school who was going to be her twin for twin day next week. Until another friend (call her T) gave said friend an outfit for her birthday that was the same as T's... and said at the party (in front of DD) now we can be twins for twin day. Of course DD was heartbroken... so suggested they go as triplets to which the other girls agreed... except that the outfit is no where to be found in our area... Yikes the drama of being 8! I don't remember it being so hard when I was that age.

on a happier note, I got home from work today and found this in my mailbox

it's from my dishcloth exchange pal on ravelry, aka zellspin.... I love everything. The grapes in the background belong to a small project bag that she made. The colorway for the yarn is fairy tales. Thank you so very much!

I finished #10 of lizard ridge square fame> This is color 116D. I'm thinking I better start to knit with the brighter Noro in my stash or I'm going to want this afghan to stay dark. I really love knitting this (I have mentioned that already, no?)

DH's socks have picked up a bit... especially when I realized that father's day is less than 2 weeks away. I'm adding some wooly nylon to the heels and toes hoping that they wear a little better.

And my MIL claimed this cloth:

Pattern: Lace Loops (chante's tricks) from Shirley's Knitting Knook Yahoo group
Yarn: Sugar and Cream
Color: Newport
Needle: US6

I'm only too happy for her to have it!

Over the weekend I finally untangled this pile of yarn, that I had spun ages ago and dyed Easter Monday with coffee. It was a tangled mess from the dyeing process and was sitting in a basket by my chair for a long time... so now it has its own little mini skeins..I think I'll spit splice them all together and then it will be one single ply skein of about 240 yards to do something fun with. I'm thinking it's Romney, but wouldn't bet any money on it.

wish me luck finding that outfit made by Fang clothing. I know they carry that brand at Boscov's so maybe another outing will prove successful.

diet? who said diet??

OK... there's lots of yarn p0rn pictures to post.

Noro from littleknits(came Thursday):

5 skeins Classic Elite Renaissance (a couldn't pass up purchase from ebay (came Friday):

And the piƩce de resistance, my S.E.X. from Kraemer's Yarns in Nazareth, who was having a 50% sale off EVERYTHING but their own name yarn, starting today. Unfortunately for me, (but good for my wallet) I got there in the afternoon instead of when the doors opened as I wished.
21 Plymouth Fantasy (I should have bought them out):

3 Butterfly (which is supposedly made along with Tahki Cotton Classic but off name and a bigger 125g skein):

7 Elsebeth Lavold's Hempathy:

2 Paton's Classic Merino and 1 Paton's Soy Wool Stripes:

2 Bernat Camoflauge in Outback:
This yarn is for my brothers Christmas gift. He wants glittens for hunting. I saw this and knew it would be perfect. And it's washable which is good cuz I'm sure he'll get them dirty!

Sock Yarn 1 Plymouth Sockotta and 4 Regia Stretch:
For DH (solids) and me!

Jeanie by Kraemer Yarn. This yarn is 80% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Nylon, Super Fine 3.5 oz./ 100 Grams approximately 480 Yards for U.S. Needle #1 - 3 with a gauge of 6.75 - 8 stitches = 1" This is regularly priced at $9.45/skein but I got it for$4.65/skein cuz the coloring isn't perfect. I'm gonna dye it anyway, so it was a brainless deal. Shoulda bought more!!!!!!!!
This will make mom's present with about half of the quantity leftover. If you're reading this mom, any specific color you'd prefer?

My sum total was much less than I expected.
I saw their Sterling yarn which has 63% superwashmerino/20% silk/15% nylon/2% silver. Yes, you read that right, real silver. Has a beautiful sheen. I coveted that baby... someday I will own some. They had 2 cones that were dyed in this gorgeous blue/purple blend... YUM

What I didn't find because I was too late was Cherry Tree Hill Sock Yarn or other higher end sock yarns Maybe you got it all Mrs. B?

What have I been working on? Well... not enough. I am all but finished the knitted food for the Love2Knit Dishcloth Exchange and today I decided that I may try to design my own cloth pattern to go along with it. If I can't do it, I have one that I've knitted and have in my exchange stash that would work fine as well. I started sock 2, but am not far along.

I'm expecting that I'll be getting my ravelry invite in less than a week. I've been watching and it seems they invite about 150 people a day, so....

639 people are ahead of you in line.
18502 people are behind you in line.
36% of the list has been invited so far
If the math is right that's about 4.2 days! I can't wait!

I had off from work on Friday. Of course at about 10:15 DD's school nurse called and said she had been there twice with a headache DH answered and offered to pick her up. I would have suggested acetaminophen, but... I went and got her, brought her home and then took the 'baby' out shopping with me to get the older 2 more clothes for school. I also picked up some things for my classroom (those tubes you swing around and they whistle, the faster you swing, the higher the pitch - I use them for something different though) and got DH some stuff he needed for his women's chorus.

Thank goodness we have off Monday. Maybe I'll get some knitting done!

Happy Crafting!

one down, one to go

socks, that is.... note to self, when using self patterning yarn that patterns fair isle, don't use rib stitch for sock... looks better in stockinette (check out the toe as opposed to the rest of it) The bottom is in stockinette, but who sees the bottom??? Oh well..

One down, 179 to go. Days of school that is. Today was the WORST first day in my 22 years (OK, I've not had 22 first days cuz of sabbaticals, but.. well you get the picture) Not the kids, they were fine. Machines. As Mr. Slinger from Lily and the Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes says, tomorrow will be a better day (I'm taking my own electronics!)

The good news is I've moved up on the ravelry chain:

Another couple weeks and I should be in. Hope I have all the stash labeled in Flickr by then, so I can just upload and play. Of course I'll have no spare time to play, but... that's life

Happy crafting everyone

My daughter, the artist!

WARNING, Will Rogers! PICTURE HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! I am so proud of her. Today was the last day of art camp for the week at the Crayola factory. Tonight they had a show and reception for the kids. All the families were invited and the works were displayed beautifully. The 3-D pieces were on semi-circle tables with colored table cloths and the flat work was displayed on display boards. There were only about 15 kids and their families there. I know not everyone could attend.

So to begin! I took pictures at the show, but I think some of the pictures I've taken at home show the work better, so those I'll post a mixture.

Flowers in a green vase
This is a painting on artist canvas.
The given still was only the vase, then they were able to add to the picture as they wanted
The flowers are like 2 little colorful bursts,
each emanating to the side.

Underwater adventure.
The students were learning about Japanese stamping and how they used dead sea creatures as their stamps.
Here the stamps were rubber. FIrst they used watercolors on the paper, after that was dry they chose their stamps, applied acrylic paint to the stamp with a ruler then pressed them on the painting in the desired location. Cool, isn't it??

This abstract painting took 2 days. First day, the glue was applied in whatever design they wanted. It dried for a couple of days. Then they painted over with water colors. After that dried, they used a toothbrush dipped in water color and fanned it with their thumb to apply the spots.

Door hanger.
This one is self-explanatory; made with the foam pieces (but thicker than the stuff you buy at A.C. Moore), 3-D paint and little pom-poms. I love her design :-)

When pigs can fly!
These are little ceramic piggy banks that the kids were given paints, fabric and feathers and wings with which to decorate. DD had lots of fun with this one. She has a smaller one at home that SIL bought her at the factory store last summer. Now there's a pair!

Coil pot.
This is air dry clay. They made the coil pot first. Then painted with tempera (I think) There was no limit to the amount of clay they could use. Some of the pots at the show were really big. They were given them 2 packages to bring home that day. We made a little coil pot. DD of course, couldn't let it alone to dry, so she broke it. Never fear... I added a bit of water to the clay and we made birds from it. They are still drying, then she'll decorate with markers or paint.

And my favorite of all.
It's a cube made up of 8 cubes that are attached on some corners.

So that you can open it flat,

make steps

or leave it as a cube

that has 12 different sides!

They had punch, cookies, pretzels and cheese curls in a separate room. That had beautiful flowers on the table.

They also decorated a hat with the Crayola logo similar in shape to the hat from the Cat in the Hat. An art camp t-shirt, a crayola factory T-shirt with crayons in a teacup (they used fabric markers on both of these) and a white crayola t-shirt to use as a smock. They made a memory book (scrapbook similarity) a diary (journal) complete with key. And they were given a Crayola treasure chest that had markers, watercolor pencils, slick crayons, paper, a plastic storage box with under/over writer markers, colored pencils, crayons, super fine markers, 3-D paint, 3 pair of scissors (2 plain and one with a fancy cut), glue stick, regular glue and glitter glue.

I'm so pleased with her week as I know she is as well. She requested to go again next year, and I think DS1 will go too! I suggested to the director that they run a camp for parents concurrently. Hopefully the idea will fly and I can have fun next summer along with them!!!!

Oh, and I have one or two things of my own to put on the post.
This is from the Dishcloth Fun KAL
