no brain have i.....

i forgot to post this in the beginning of Jan....
DS1's teacher had a baby boy so before she left for her leave I made this

Pattern: cocoon baby stork sack
Yarn: Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co., Inc Peaches & Creme Solids
Color: Royal Blue, tierra firma
Needle: US 15
Rcipient: Baby Simmers

I held the 2 yarns together to make a bulky yarn. It's cotton so it's a nice covering for a new baby that wants to be swaddled. Hope she uses it ;-)

I'm working on my 9th cable repeat for the every way wrap.... not much else to say. The new principal started on Tuesday.. juries out on that yet.

drama for an 8YO

DD has a very good friend (call her G) at school who was going to be her twin for twin day next week. Until another friend (call her T) gave said friend an outfit for her birthday that was the same as T's... and said at the party (in front of DD) now we can be twins for twin day. Of course DD was heartbroken... so suggested they go as triplets to which the other girls agreed... except that the outfit is no where to be found in our area... Yikes the drama of being 8! I don't remember it being so hard when I was that age.

on a happier note, I got home from work today and found this in my mailbox

it's from my dishcloth exchange pal on ravelry, aka zellspin.... I love everything. The grapes in the background belong to a small project bag that she made. The colorway for the yarn is fairy tales. Thank you so very much!

I finished #10 of lizard ridge square fame> This is color 116D. I'm thinking I better start to knit with the brighter Noro in my stash or I'm going to want this afghan to stay dark. I really love knitting this (I have mentioned that already, no?)

DH's socks have picked up a bit... especially when I realized that father's day is less than 2 weeks away. I'm adding some wooly nylon to the heels and toes hoping that they wear a little better.

And my MIL claimed this cloth:

Pattern: Lace Loops (chante's tricks) from Shirley's Knitting Knook Yahoo group
Yarn: Sugar and Cream
Color: Newport
Needle: US6

I'm only too happy for her to have it!

Over the weekend I finally untangled this pile of yarn, that I had spun ages ago and dyed Easter Monday with coffee. It was a tangled mess from the dyeing process and was sitting in a basket by my chair for a long time... so now it has its own little mini skeins..I think I'll spit splice them all together and then it will be one single ply skein of about 240 yards to do something fun with. I'm thinking it's Romney, but wouldn't bet any money on it.

wish me luck finding that outfit made by Fang clothing. I know they carry that brand at Boscov's so maybe another outing will prove successful.

All aboard

Thomas the Tank engine. This was the "official" birthday cake. The party was halted by mom's surprise visit to the hospital on Saturday. The plan was to go to their house Sunday after church so they wouldn't have to manuever the steps anywhere. So the plan was changed.... and P didn't get his Thomas cake until Sunday night. But he didn't complain at all. What a good kid... he was just happy to have cake and another candle to blow out!

The mailman brought a package from ebay this week with 10 skeins Knitting Fever's King Tut mercerized Egyptian cotton yarn. 7 skeins of hot orange, 2 of yellow and 1 of red.

I finished one spool of targhee cross... it's relatively thin, haven't measured it yet, but I'm spinnning the second spool so that I can ply them together. Hoping for a sockweight give or take when it's all said and done.

Muchos fotos

Por que la lengue, preguntas? Well my SIL arrived today, so the house is filled with Castellano, and switching is difficult for me...
As promised, I have some pictures of the 5 finished cloths. The ballband is still OTN, it's a bit over half done. I took pictures withouth blocking since I'll block all 6 at the same time, but it will give you an idea of what has been clicking on my needles. Without further ado…

Pattern: Hot Chocolate by Alli Barrett at Knit Wits Heaven
Yarn: Lily's Sugar and Cream
Color: Softly Taupe
Needle: Susan Bates size 6

This is larger than I was hoping, but the picture is too cute. I thought about changing the border so the size would be the same as the others but that would leave out the beans... so I left it as is.

Pattern: Chinese Waves Circular Cloth (sorry I can't find the link right now)
Yarn: Lily's Sugar and Cream
Color: Yellow Ombre (?) I'll check the band later
Needles: Susan Bates size 6

If I make this one again, I need to remember to cast off a bit looser... since the last part is seaming the radius of the circle.

Pattern: VW cloth by Maude Beaudreault
Yarn: Lily's Sugar and Cream
Color: Yellow
Needles: Susan Bates size 6

A has a yellow bug, so I thought this cloth would be perfect for her!

Pattern: Rhonda White's The Infamous Darrell Waltrip Cloth
Yarn: Peaches and Cream
Color: Butter & Cream
Needles: Susan Bates size 6

I love this pattern... I really never tire of it with a varigated yarn.

Pattern: Sunshine by Andi Worthy
Yarn: Lily's Sugar and Cream
Color: Sunshine Yellow
Needles: Susan Bates size 6

This was the KAL for July in the Monthly Dishcloth KAL group. One of the group mom's designed the pattern. Visit her site to see her other designs

I'll try to finish ballband by tmrw and post that picture. But as I said, my SIL arrived this morning from Argentina, we haven't seen her for a year, so there's a lot to catch up on. She of course came bearing gifts. Here are just a few!
These are buttons from a local fair. Literally it's just around the corner from her house. They put up shop on Sundays and all kinds of taller (artists) are there selling their wares. From leather goods to wooden buttons, wooden trays, spoons, jewelry, paintings.. you name it, if it's artsy you'll find it there. Each part of the city of Buenos Aires seems to have one, Recoleta is the most famous, but the one near her is in San Isidro close to the tren de la costa. She also picked up this wool yarn for me, thinking I can use it as an accent on a sweater or scarf or something. It's incredibly soft and I love it. The colors are all natural from the wool. It's 3 ply thick and thin, where the thick part is like pencil roving... I have to think of something really wonderful to showcase this yarn!

My MIL sent along this lovely cotton yarn for me. The hanks are HUGE. You can see that as they compare to the size of my laptop. I LOVE the colors. Do they know me or what??? My SIL made the kids T-shirts. I'll post pictures of them later, but she is an incredible artist and it's amazing that she drew the pictures herself! What talent that woman has. I'm in awe.

I leave you with one of the sunflowers from my garden. I didnt' plant any this year. The seeds had dropped from one of the plants I DID plant last year. Now the plants are about 12 feet tall. My DH teases me that one day I'm going to disappear up into the clouds like Jack and the Beanstalk.

Yearning for yarn?

I have some photos for you then!

First, my lastest of the wheel. I like to call them my twins because they measure in at 273 yards and 276 yards, at 11 wpi. Pretty close in size I'd say. This is still from Fuzzy, the first raw fleece I purchased. Romney if you recall. There's still more fiber left from her. but I've moved on to the Targhee blend even though it doesn't seem to like the way I was spinning on Sunday. So I put the wheel up for a few days. Hopefully next time I'm treadling, the fiber and I will not be at such odds!

I was at ACMoore yesterday. I needed to pick up a display board for a project DD has for school. Of course, since Sugar and Cream was 96¢ a skein, I couldn't leave without picking up a few. Can you guess how many from the photo? More than I need but not as many as I would have liked to given a home to. LOL

Seems as though Tuesday was fiber day, because my order from Elmore Pisgah arrived. 5 pounds of peaches and cream. 3 pounds of it are for the absorba the great bathmat from the MasonDixon book. And this is what I accomplished earlier this evening. That bath mat uses triple stranded double worsted weight. With 3 little ones sometimes all in the tub at the same time, my bathroom needs this! The tiles are off white, with an occasional small aqua tile added in and the fixtures (tub, sink and potty) are the same aqua... it's a very 50's color so I think this mat will look great in there.

Along in the box were these 2 one pound cones of colors that were overruns. I love the blue and the varigated will make pretty cloths for gifts for several folks that are on my list.

Just to add to the gluttony of cotton yarn in this post, I'll include a picture of some Lion Brand that I got on sale at my local Hancock's Fabrics (they're closing many of the stores.... so sad for me!) I love the Lion Brand cotton cuz the skeins are nice and big! Everything in this picture was 40% off. The colors are dark ones, but I'm sure I'll find good use for them. I bought every skein they had in the store. Just wish they had had some other colors as well. But you can't be choosy when you are waiting for the mark-downs. I popped in there on Easter Monday, when my yarn buying diet was over because all that yarn had been calling my name during Lent. Included are 3 skeins of DMC Senso crochet cotton I want to try with some bookmark patterns. Since I still can't crochet, they'll be knitted ones. They also had some fabric strip yarn that was tempting me, but I didn't bring any home because of its ridiculously expensive price even at 40% off. It was purty though.

I leave you with another picture of my handspun.

Happy Crafting!
