Happy St. Patrick's Day

Yesterday 12 students came for PSSA knitting activity. 2 had knit with me last year. One I started to teach to purl but today she fell back into knitting (she had left her original at home). It's a great group of kids... they learned to use a knit cast on yesterday which took a long time for them to put on 28 stitches... and today they started to take off. We had 90 minutes to knit and I'm so proud of them!

on a more serious note, the board meeting is tonight. I wish I could be there, but it's time to put own children before my school children.

one of the subs at school brought in 2 sweaters for me. One is Peruvian colorwork and so beautiful... I hate to frog it... but I know this wool doesn't felt well (I've tried with a different sweater) the other is a bulky aran knit with really neat buttons that remind me of coconut shell.... I'll frog that one. It seems to be hand knit... what a shame, someone obviously spent a long time knitting it.....

Didn't do 10 on tuesday today cuz I didn't have the energy to find 10 songs I hated.

here's to a happy tmrw!

more fo's

finally, the linus project blanket that needed seaming (thirty-six 7" by 9" pieces) is complete.... I was thinking about an attached i-cord edging, but I need to decide on a color. At any rate, I could send it out now and here is the labor of all those kids work from March and April, many of them new knitters

Linus Project blanket #1 2008

it's all acrylic yarns but various companys and many knitters. My retired teacher friend has another 36 blocks in more girly colors that she is in charge of seaming. My pointer finer is actually a bit sore from that darning needle.

I also have some little magic baby booties that I knit up from scraps in the wrong weight wool, thereby forcing me to use a larger needle and messing up the gauge. So i winged the math and came up with these:
baby slippers in the round
and to see the bottoms:
baby slippers in the round
you can tell that the yarn is from the same skein, but they aren't a matched pair, which kind of gives them a charm of their own!

I'm trying to import pictures from flickr that I have already uploaded.. we'll see how the look is.

I finished up spinning some Colonial top from Ashland Bay that a friend has sent me a sample of long ago. It spins like a dream. Someday I'll order more.... after I get through the stash of fiber that already is in my house. Right now I'm working on another sample that the same frind dyed. I'm not sure of the fiber though.

someday I'll learn this html stuff so that I can really make my blog the way I want it to look, but for now there's no time.

DS1 had a friend sleepover last night. Tonight is DD's turn..2 of her friends. pulling in the last few days of summer!

We made the news

well the local news at least. The Morning Call did a story on the blanket... that is on display as a part of the school's art show today. The article in the real paper was a bit more in depth both about the project and the art show, but this link gives you an idea.

It should be in the other local paper either Saturday or Monday as well.. then it gets shipped off to help keep someone warm. Although, with the weather we've been having of late, I can't even imagine needing a blanket. Last night I was so hot all night... and it's humid too blech!

I also finished up some goodies to include with my puffy for the monthly dishcloth KAL exchange. DD helped me with one item. I'll post the picture after I'm sure my partner has received her package.

OK... tons of school work to do. Wish sleep was on the menu for tonight

School Knitting Update

Well today we took inventory. There are 46 'squares' in various states of being finished. Actually there 38 completed and the other 8 will be by the weekend (Mrs. C and I will see to that!) I'm really proud of these kids. Especially since most of them had never held a knitting needle before in their lives.

And I saw the local Girl Scout troop leaders after school and told them that I'd be happy to mark the girls books for the knitting badges who were in class with me. They already checked them out... but the good news is that next year they want to be in on the project. This could really blossom into something nice... I'm feeling happy about that.
