spun and plied

I finally finished the blurple romney. I have 3 two ply hanks totalling 384 yards and one small single ply hank that I haven't yet measured. It was hard for me to figure out how to even out the rolags so both bobbins would be the same. I filled 2 bobbins then plied, then put more on each bobbin. If you have a better way of figuring, lmk, cuz I need some pointers! I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Just wish I was a bit more even in my spinning. I know part of it is the fact that I didn't pull out the little 2nd cuts. Some I did as I was spinning, but they didn't seem to come out in the carding process. Now the question is what to make. I was hoping to have enough for a hat and mittens, but that's not going to happen... so I was thinking something like knitty's fetching or knucks sans embroidery. It's about 11 wpi which sets it at approx. worsted weight.

This scarf goes so well with this wool, I almost have to make an accessory to go along with it. Hmmmm maybe mitts and knitty's calorimetry? The scarf isn't knitted, it's woven with 70% mohair and 30% wool. I bought it at Landau's in Princeton when I was in grad school.... just a short time before I met the love of my life.

If you have any ideas, let me know. I'm open for suggestions.

The blue/purple mix looks beautiful! I love the colors :-D. And I definitely recommend the calorimetry hat. It's so quick and easy. The one item I'll mention... it fits me fine, but I usually wear large hats (apparently, I have a big head!). I know I've seen a bunch of comments that people have reduced the cast on a bit. If you look on Knitty's board, you should find more details.

Oh, and there is a trick to not have to worry about the bobbins being even when doing 2-ply (I haven't figured out the solution yet for 3-ply). It took me a while to figure it out as well...

Basically when you finish the first bobbin, wind off what's left of the second bobbin onto a ball winder or nostepinne. Then continue plying using both the inside and outsite strands.

I'll warn you, it does take a bit of practice, and the first time I did end up with a tangled mess. But once I got the hang of it, it works great!

Beautiful yarn...beautiful color and to know you spun it yourself...amazing :)

I would love to be able to spin, but it doesn't look like it's in the cards for me. Luckily I can drool over yours ;)

happy knitting :)
